Just under six years of age, Zuri Anne Chebet is a little package of amazing talent.
Zuri is not just a singer, she is also a good actress, a dancer, and an acrobat, and she loves to display her talent, whenever she gets a chance to do so and she is not shy about it. She has the courage of an adult because she believes in her ability.
She is only in PPI at Donholm Catholic School in Nairobi’s Eastlands, but when she is not in class, she is always oozing with creative expertise that she likes to flaunt. One is her amazing mastery of the English language, though she can hardly spell some of the big words she speaks. She is also good at Kiswahili.
Nothing fascinates Zuri like recording her own stuff on the phone, mostly likely inspired by what she watches on TV, Tiktok and YouTube. The short skits that she has done would be good enough for Tiktok, but could as well develop into her own YouTube Channel.
Recently, she pulled off a good show, set the phone recording and dragged her grandfather to introduce him to her audience. She handled the elderly man with a real professional touch, showing her amazing composure and procedure to guide him along and use the opportunity to talk about her own show.
“My grandpa wants to give me my own video channel…”she musically wrapped up the show. This is a little girl, who has yet to step into Standard One.
There has been a lot of excitement about the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) helping teachers and parents to identify and nurture talent from an early age. There are many Zuris out there, who could be groomed from an early age to become good actors as they grow up.
Zuri’s mother, Sheila Cheptoo, says her daughter began to manifest her talent at an early age.
She has great agility and flexibility. She really enjoys the company of older people like her grandparents, often challenging her grandma to try out some of her exquisite acrobatic moves. However, Zuri is just an ordinary child like others, but she also has a commanding presence among her age mates. Zuri’s first video on YouTube, which was her own initiative and done in her own way, showcases latent talent.
Singing, dancing and acrobatics are what make Zuri tick and with a little more encouragement, she is destined for greater things. Her maiden show with her grandpa was hosted on the YouTube channel of her uncle, KK, who styles himself as the Top Notch Journalist.
Says the USIU, Nairobi-trained broadcast media practitioner, calling for support to enable Zuri to achieve her dream: “This is raw talent. Zuri has always been passionate about being in front of the camera from a tender age.
“Her video has done much better than some of the work I have posted on YouTube since I was a student.”
Within two days of it uploading on YouTube, Zuri’s show had garnered more than 200 views and looked destined to do much better.
